USB Flash Drives
![]() |
Not all the USB flash drives are created the same. There are two types of NAND Flash available in market: SLC (Single Level Cell) and MLC (Multi-Level Cell). The main difference is that SLC stores a single bit of data per cell whereas MLC, by using a larger number of voltage levels, stores two bits of data per cell. By storing more data per cell, MLC flash, therefore, is cheaper than SLC flash. However, the reliability and the performance of the MLC is significantly lower than SLC flash. Typically, MLC flash has a lower read and write speeds. It has 10x lower read/write cycles (100,000 cylces for SLC vs 10,000 cycles for MLC). It has shorter data retention time. The market is flooded with low cost USB flash drives. In order to to have a good experience with moka5 LivePC, we recommand you to use a good quality USB flash drive. Check out our USB flash drives performance review here. We have also custom-made some moka5 USB drives.
