bare metal questions & issues
I installed Bare Metal on the 2nd hard drive on my system. The menu.lst on the 1st hard drive wasn't updated properly. I had to do it by hand.
I had a few problems that are probably due to my misunderstanding of the user interface, specifically how do I put a LivePC in full-screen mode, and when I iconify a LivePC window where does it go? I would iconify a window, it would disappear, then I would double-click on the LivePC again which I think would start a new one (ps showed one already running), and I would get errors. One error I got was:
Cannot open the disk '/cache/user/FearlessBrowser/activation/system.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: failed to lock the file.
I went in and removed the .WRITELOCK files after making sure the vmplayer was no longer running, but then I got an error message that there was an input/output error on system.cdski.
I then removed the FearlessBrower LivePC and resubscribed but had the same problems.
Now a few questions:
I want to lock down the machine. Getting rid of the root shells on the other consoles shouldn't be too hard, but can I restrict LivePC Engine to a fixed set of LivePCs that are served locally? The scenario is a computer lab of about 80 machines on which we want to provide several different flavors of Windows and Linux to the students, but not just any LivePC. We don't want to make our LivePCs available outside the department due to licensing concerns.

We talked to John on the issues that he reported. Here is a summary:
- full screen mode vs window mode. This is configured in the LivePC.
- Fearless Browser issue. Fearless Browser does not work in bare metal version yet. There is nothing wrong with Fearless Browser. It's just where we host it.
- Complete lock down of the machine. We are working with John to gather his requirements. Stay tune.
I could use Bare Metal lock-down capability, too!
I don't know how far you've gotten with respect to John's request, but his request is quite similar to how I would want to be able to use Bare Metal edition.
I don't know that I want to have all the VM's exclusively local --- I'd want to be able to serve the VM's as private, perhaps from an internally-hosted (local-site-hosted) server.
I seem to recall that you had some documentation on how to host your own VMs rather than having to rely on the connection to the Moka5 hosted LivePC library. That would be a useful feature!
Fearless browser works
Hi, Im not sure if this answer will be updated enough but I just installed moka5 bare metal (aug/3/2007) and Fearless browser works great on it. However I get issues when I tried to connect it under a firewall netwok it makes connection but it just doesnt work.
