shared files password protected?

I wanted to access the shared files folder located on my usb stick while running vista from my stick and it asks for a password.
It does not accept the computername\username + password of the host pc... I tried the usual me\me combination, no chance.
what username does it expect? the host pc username? seems logic but it does not work...
Vista seems to have a bunch
Vista seems to have a bunch of security that I believe is blocking the share to work...just got to find that option.
For an XP LivePC ,I used the 192.x.x.2 to access the host C:\ disk
My sample:
net use \\192.x.x.2\C
I needed to enable sharing on C and had the share name as "C". Without having sharing enabled, I got the username/password prompts.
I'm not sure about the C$ yet.
