How to get settings to save from one session to the next?

I installed engine on the desktop, downloaded the ubuntu livepc, and load into the engine, and start the session. I enter my e-mail settings in evolution, and they disappear from one session to the next, after I unload the session. I set both hard disks to persistent, and this does not help. How do I avoid having to re-create all config settings every time?
