Two Questions regarding setting up my current PC as a LivePC

I am having trouble in two areas:

1) the tips are unclear on how to change the VM machine such that the data is seperate (so that updates will be allowed). You give an example, but I dont know how to do this. I have imported my XP computer with the VMWare converter and am stuck there.

"Re-organize your virtual machine or LivePC such that its 'system' disk and 'user data' disk are separated as discussed above."

Help!

2) I dont understand this next command: Before importing a VMware virtual machine, make sure that the filename for the bootup disk is system.vmdk. If it is not, please rename it to system.vmdk. This step is necessary for 'Bootup Optimization' to work. The 'Bootup Optimization' feature allows LivePCs to be started even though the entire LivePC has not been downloaded.

I looked through the VM that I created and they are all files with the extension vmdk. There is a base one that is called machinename.vmdk but also a bunch that are machinename-s00x.vmdk.

Is the first one the file I need to change the name of?

Thanks

Try these instructions

Hi larsleckie,

>> "Re-organize your virtual machine or LivePC such that its 'system' disk and 'user data' disk are separated as discussed above."

Sorry this was unclear, please go to this quicksteps page and look at the last section 'Separating System State and User State', I have added more specific instructions there.

The rest of this page might also be useful for you if you wish to optimize the overall user experience.

Note that this state separation step is only necessary if you plan to share your LivePC with others.

>> There is a base one that is called machinename.vmdk but also a bunch that are machinename-s00x.vmdk.

The LivePC Engine import feature today is limited. It does not support the split vmdk of your current virtual machine. Therefore, you need to first follow the bottom 4 steps in the last section of this quick steps page about LivePC conversion.

When you run the first step, just make sure 'target.vmdk' is 'system.vmdk'. Also, you will want to skip step 2. After you perform these steps, you should be able to import the VMWare virtual machine into the LivePC Engine!

I hope this helps, let us know if you need more help!! Thanks for trying out the moka5 LivePC Engine!
