Write Protect Error

Good Evening:

Just returned from VMWorld - saw your presentation and was impressed. Have downloaded and installed M5 on a MyFlash 4.0gb flash disk. Had extreme difficulties in getting a new LivePC to recognize the fact I wanted to install from an ISO image, so I went the 'import' route on a WinXPSP2 vm image I just had laying around.

Fired her up after import; again very impressed, this vm had a cisco VPN setup so fired that up and proceeded to download a 75 mb file (Cisco Communicator - you know, secure communications on a USB is a holy grail thingy) from the office. Half way thru the download, the following error happened: Windows - Write Protect Error

"The disk cannot be written to because it is protected. Please remove the write protection from the volume MOKA5 in drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR6"

There is no write protection on the flash drive (and I had downloaded 35 mb of the 75 mb file anyway!). I gave Moka5 3gb of disk space on install, the XP vm is 1.7 gb and the device has 1.9 gb free.

Subsequent removal and reboot and the error is reproducible; in other words: still broken.

Any help here guys? Thanks.

Hi,

Hi,

Sorry you are having problems. Do you get the write-protect errors even when copying a normal file to the device outside of the LivePC Engine? I suspect that this is a hardware problem with your flash drive. I tested about 30 different USB sticks and wrote a review about them. The worst stick by far was the 8GB AData MyFlash. The access times were incredibly long (900+ seconds for install!) and I was getting sporadic device errors. Needless to say we returned that one back to Fry's ;-). I have a feeling the 4GB MyFlash might not be too hot either.

Sorry about your problems. We've had good experiences with the sticks that have the 5-star rating in the review. It's really hard to tell which sticks are good and which ones are bad, so I recommend anyone to take a look at the review before buying a stick.
