LivePC Backup on the network drive.

I'd like to backup my virtual environment on my home server (Linux with Samba) instead of my local disk. How difficult will be to change the default backup path from "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\moka5\Engine\backup" to something like "Z:\moka5\Engine\backup", where "Z:" is mapped to my network share?

ps. I'd be interested to help develop and test backup improvements.

I love moka5 and VMware. :) Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for the comments.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments. One thing you can try (I haven't tried it myself yet) is to set up "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\moka5\Engine\backup" as an NTFS junction point. Set up the junction point to point to the directory on your Z: drive and it should backup to your network share.

Let me know if it works for you! We are actively developing the LivePC backup application so stay tuned for some exciting new features. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Windows don't support juction point to remote share.

Hi John,

I try to run the test, but it didn't work for me. When I try create link it failed.

Then I found:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/Junction.mspx

There is this node:
"Note that Windows does not support junctions to directories on remote shares."

Is the backup folder name is hard coded or can be found in configuration or resource file?

Hi, Oops! Sorry, I should

Hi,

Oops! Sorry, I should have known that...

Right now the backup location is hardcoded. In the next version of the LivePC Engine, I'll be sure to add an option to make the backup location configurable.

config file

Hi John,
Thank you, for understanding. :)
I think will be beneficial to add optional configuration file (for example) that allows to change the default locations of backup directory, "My Shared LivePC Documents" and "LivePC local documents" master directory.
