Converting your physical machine into a virtual machine will enable you to use your beloved environment and content without the hassle of re-creating a virtual machine, i.e.: re-installing WindowsXP along with your trusted applications.

Ingredients

1. Your physical machine.
2. Free VMware Converter – physical to virtual (P2V) software.
3. Valid WindowsXP license key.
4. Available disk space (you can use a local disk or an external one).

Steps

1. Install the VMware Converter on your machine.
2. Start the import wizard: from the menu, select File > New > Import
3. Choose “physical computer” as Source type.
4. Select Destination type “VMware standalone virtual machine”
5. Choose a virtual machine name and a destination location.
6. Complete the wizard and then wait for your virtual machine to complete its conversion.
7. Follow the quick step VMware to LivePC™ Conversion to complete the conversion into a LivePC.

note: When you first start your virtual machine, you will need to use a valid WindowsXP license key in order to re-activate your virtual copy.
