Forget about complicated installation and configuration process, use the 'xpfromcd' tool to easily create your Windows LivePC today.
How to use it
To use this tool, simply follow the steps below:
- Download this package, unzip into root of a drive, say C:\
- insert Windows CD into your CD-ROM
- double-click 'start.bat' in the unzipped package, fill out the displayed form, press OK
- wait for about 45 minutes -- go grab a cup of coffee or something
- your Windows LivePC will be ready when you come back! you
may start using it. - If you wish to share your LivePC with others, please continue to Step 5 of this quicksteps guide, or for more details, please see this LivePC Creator Guide
Benefits of using this tool
- Your Windows LivePC will be ready for publish and update. This tool sets up Windows such that the 'system state' is separate from the 'user state', putting user data on a different virtual drive. This means your users can get updates without losing their existing data.
- moka5 tools are set up for you, and you can access your files in 'My Documents' folder from both inside as well as outside the LivePC. This means if you wish to access your files quickly you could do so without starting a LivePC.
xpfromcd Version
The current xpfromcd version is 8856.
Limitations
The tool currently has the following known limitations. We will eliminate some of them as requests come in. If you find other limitations or if you would simply like to give us feedback, please comment on this page or post to the forum.
- xpfromcd r8856 installs moka5tools which is compatible with LivePC Engine 1.0.8724
- non-English XP hosts are not supported at this time.
- 1.2GB of temporary free space is needed, approximately 2GB of free space on the LivePC Engine is needed
- UI only asks for activation key once, if incorrect activation key is entered, it will cause installation failure
- UI version is incorrect
- When invalid values are entered, users are prompted again inside a command line window, which has an inconsistent look
- Stripped down installs with nlite are supported
- VMware Tools are not installed automatically
- temp files may be left on host after an error
