LivePC is incredibly slow starting any LivePC session
I have installed the LivePC engine, downloaded several LivePCs and when I attempt to start them it takes forver and a day to get something to show up in the VM window.
I am using an IBM T43 Thinkpad, 1.8gHz Pentium M cpu, with XP2, and a 1GB of memory.
I have installed the LivePC engine on the hard drive and allocated 5GB of space - is it sinmply not enough space?
Its not clear to me whether there is a way to download the LivePC prior to starting it in the VM window. My suspicion is that all the time is coming fomr waiting for the LivePC to actually downlaod to my laptop.
Thanks for your assistnace ahead of time -
Please give us more information to assist you
Hi Carleogl,
Thank you for trying out the LivePC Engine and thank you for the detailed information about your configuration, installation etc.
Unless you're using some very large LivePCs, 5GB should be more than enough space for the LivePC Engine.
Sorry about the inconvenience you have with download times.
I suspect that the connection speed from where you are to our web server is quite slow. Could you please provide the following information?
1. Could you provide the LivePC Engine log file to
help us understand this issue better? It'll help us confirm that the connection speed is indeed the problem. You can find the log file at:
C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\moka5\Engine\m5engine.log
Please attach the log file as a comment to this post, or email it to
[email protected]
2. We'd like to find out where you are downloading from. Do you think it is ok for you to give us your public ip address? You can find that out by going to www.whatismyip.com Please also tell us your physical location.
3. Please tell us: When you were downloading the approx 40MB size LivePC Engine installer file from our website, approximately what was the download speed you were seeing in Kilobytes / second?
4. Do you have your own installation of VMware Player or VMware
Workstation on the host that you are running the LivePC Engine on?
5. Please give us a list of LivePCs you tried and were having problems with.
Thank you for trying the moka5 LivePC Engine and we are sorry about the problems you're seeing.
Thanks,
-Gerald

Hi, Sorry you are having
Hi,
Sorry you are having problems. Here are a few tips that might help.
Once you click to subscribe to a new LivePC, the LivePC Engine will start buffering it. You should wait for 5-10 minutes to allow the LivePC to buffer for a while. There is a "charge bar" along the bottom of each LivePC which shows how much is cached. To the left of the changebar is an orange "pacman" indicator. Once the pacman is full, it has downloaded all of the blocks necessary to start the LivePC, so you should be able to start it quickly.
Also, LivePCs can take a fair amount of RAM, so you want to avoid running more than one at a time. If you start up a bunch of them concurrently, they can cause your machine to start swapping and become sluggish.
Hope these tips help! If LivePCs are still slow even after the chargebar is >50% full, please let us know and we'll investigate.
