This LivePC contains a complete working version of Synapse EMR - both client and server. It is built upon the Ubuntu 7.04 LivePC. See the short readme on the desktop to get started.
The Synapse client is Linux based, and the Synapse server is the Windows version running under Wine. It connects to a local Linux Firebird server.
To allow others to connect to the server once running, use Hamachi, and connect to the LivePC on port 8011.
The patient data is stored under the /home directory and so will not be lost if the LivePC is refreshed.
The following is the original comment by the creator of the ubuntu base distribution.
Ubuntu is an excellent distribution of Linux which includes many user friendly interfaces for configuration. The feature enhancements as documented by the Ubuntu developers are available here.
Want to allow a private virtual network of your friends to access your files or web services within your LivePC? I enhanced this LivePC to have support for Hamachi. It automatically loads the Quamachi GUI for Hamachi when you log in. If you want to put your LivePC on a private network with your friends:
- Choose "Connect" from the "Status" menu.
- Choose "Nickname" from the "Network" menu, and enter a nickname that will identify your computer on the network
- Choose "Create" from the "Network" menu, and enter a name for the network. You have to pick a unique one so it may take a few tries. You will also have to enter a password.
- Send the network name and password to your peers and then they can choose "Join" from the "Network" menu and become a part of your private network
Ubuntu has the ability to share files over two standard protocols built in. To share a folder right click it and choose share folder. You will be asked to enter the administrator password which is simply 'm5'
If you plan to install software or make system setting changes, you will have to enable the "Let me make changes to this LivePC" option on the advanced option page. Feel free to post derivatives of this LivePC back to this site as customized LivePC you can share with your friends or coworkers.
Note: If you have problems connecting to the network and you see an IP address conflict error, click on the Network icon in the top right corner of the screen and switch network adapters.
