moka5

got 3d?

I read and tried the suggestions offered in the threads titled "3d Acceleration" and "3D problems" but both threads seem to have fallen to deaf ears (or eyes in the case of text read).

I have tried both VMware workstation as well as moka5, used prebuilt virtual machines, as well as installed my own fresh copy of WinXP pro. I have tried with and without moka5 tools, with and without vmware tools, and have edited the config file as suggested and tried without the manual edit.

My goal here is to get 2 copies of a game called "Last Chaos" to run on my computer. More informationa about this particular game can be found at http://forums.aeriagames.com/index.php

My current hardware is:
AMD Dual Core AM2 64bit X2 3800+
2x 1GB DDR2 800 RAM = 2GB RAM
Radeon 1600pro 512MB DDR2 400 VRAM PCIE

All drivers are current as of today 12sep07, I also thoroughly completed the steps of 'computer tweaks' offered in the guide at tweakguides.org for optimal performance on both the host operating system as well as the guest operating system. Running Win XP pro w/ SP2 and all subsequent updates offered by microsoft on both Host and Guest.

Some questions I have are:

Is my difficulting stemming from having a 64bit processor and 32bit operating system choking my ability to run virtual machine with 3d support?
Is there a newer version of the moka5 tools available then the ones listed in the forums?
If this task I've set myself to accomplishing is not possible with moka5 or vmware, can anyone suggest an alternative method of running two copies of "Last Chaos" on one hardware box without altering the files. The game uses an anti-cheat/anti-hack program that disallows multiple processes running on one system, wich is why I am tryin to set up the virtual machine.

One symptom with vmware would run the game with faulty video causing the game to lock up or crash randomly, with severe video 'glitches' appearing to be caused by the 3d lighting.

one symptom the game would start on the guest operating system but the process to run the game after the initial splash screen (used for updates and news) would lock up and continue to run in the process list without using any proc or memory but would not initialize the window for the game. Then to retry I would have to control-alt-delete to close the process manually.

One symptom would lock up the virtual machine and I would have to use the engine tool to 'power off' the guest OS completely.

For all occurances it did not seem to matter if i was running the game with the host OS or not.

I cant currently think of any additional information that might be helpful. please if you need more information let me know I will get it for you.

Guest tools

Hi coolbone. I'm sorry youre having trouble with this feature. The guest tools I had installed for my Bioshock demo at VMWorld are located at http://downloads.moka5.com/guest/moka5tools-9800.msi. What revision tools did you download?

I tried both

I tried both moka4tools-1.0b-8748.msi

as well as moka5tools-9800.msi with mixed results as listed above. tried each of these installs with and without the manual config file edit as suggested on one of these forums.

...waiting for a computer

We've just returned from VMWorld and my game development system is shipping back to me right now. I'll be able to test this out and see what's up early next week. I have seen games which detect VMs, so I'll have to verify that this isn't one of those games.

Much thanks to you in

Much thanks to you in advance of any information that might help me overcome this obstacle.

I have managed to get the game to run with severe graphics glitches and crashing, as tho the 3d lighting is a major issue while using VM Workstation. Also I'm being led to believe that the NAT is not going to be a solution, I may have to create an additional IP address on the Host and bridge the connection. I am not 100% sure about the NAT issue though because I have absolutely no clue how the net-code for the game is handled. I would be curious to see if that solves at least the frequent disconnects that I was getting. I am still trying to get moka5 running as I really like the interface it provides. Going to delete the virtual machine .vmx and start from scratch again. This time will create it with VM Workstation then import it to moka5 and see if that works, first without the moka tools then with. I will report back here when I have results.

Which version of the moka5 tools is the current version? I have 2 copies, one a 9800 then another an 8748. It seems most are recommending the 8748 download. It would be great to get an official recommendation, with perhaps a brief description as to why. Is the 8748 more widely compatible or targeted for different hardware platforms?

I also found out that a lot of my video problems the last few days were caused by the ATI driver update that I performed prior to attempting the moka5 install the first time. ATI is having serious problems with version 7.9 and I cleaned out drivers as recommended by:

http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_3.html

Then Installed the new drivers without the Catalyst, tho I may find myself re-downloading the 7.8 CCC application.

Again, Many Thanks to any productive responses I receive, the other two forums I posted a request for help thread received no reply worth even reading. I really am hoping this thread does not die as the two previous threads regarding the 3d support issues.

I will report my findings back here and continue to check for a response to the above questions!
