How Can I Get Changes to grub.conf to Persist Between Reboots/Pwr Downs?
I have a laptop that I had installed Ubuntu 7.0.4 on. I decided to install Bare Metal on the same machine using the dual boot option. When the install was done, restarting only gave me one choice--moka5 LivePC Player. :-(
At a subsequent point, I booted the machine using a Ubuntu LiveCD and was able to access all of the Ubuntu install's Grub info (in menu.lst) and then drop it into the Bare Metal's grub.conf. On reboot from the Ubuntu LiveCD, I got the grub boot menu I had built. Unfortunately, when I went into Bare Metal and restarted, I ended up with the single option menu again. After several attempts from several different angles, I was stumped. My Ubuntu install is fine, but I can't get to it without booting from another source.
Help . . . Thanks,
SteveS
Need Any More Info to Help?

Baremetal's grub
Baremetal's grub configuration is at
/sysroot/boot/vmr-grub/grub.conf
Update the grub timeout you can you select the OS at the grub menu.
Add your the original Ubuntu boot to the grub.conf
Hope this helps

Works Once, Then Reverts to Original
Kevin,
Some additional info:
- I've modified grub.conf in /sysroot/boot/vmr-grub and, to make the process easier in the future, I've made a copy of the modifed file as grub.conf_ubuntu_incl
- I restart the system & am able to get into my Ubuntu install
- I restart the system again & select moka5
- When I restart the system again from moka5, I only get a single boot option -- moka5
For some reason, unless I made the changes during that particular session, moka5 resets the grub.conf file to the orginal version that it is pulling from somewhere. My question is where is that "somewhere" so that I can modify the real source file OR how do I go about making that change if it is not as straightforward as modifying a file?
Since I am able to get into Ubuntu without an external boot source at this point, the importance of finding a way around this has gone down a good bit, so if finding an answer to this isn't a simple matter, please give it a lower priority.
Thanks,
SteveS

We're researching this issue since I personally haven't had a chance to look at the grub config. I'll update this once I get the info. Sorry for the inconvenience.
