3d acceleration for Linux

I like to run Ubuntu and PcLinuxOS in virtual machines.
When can I expect to be able to enable 3d acceration on my linux livepc's?
If you got that running, linux livepc's could then run compiz/beryl for all the fun 3d desktop stuff. You would get alot of people using moka5 w/ that feature running.

Hi Brad, Thanks much for

Hi Brad,

Thanks much for your feedback. Right now the 3D acceleration feature is for Windows only. It is technically feasible to use a similar technique for 3D acceleration on Linux LivePCs. It is just a matter of priorities.

Is the goal to allow people to try out 3D desktop effects like Beryl, etc.? Or is it more so that people can use it for everyday use? Besides Beryl and other 3D desktops, are there popular 3D applications for Linux that you would want to run in LivePC? Also would 3D acceleration for Linux LivePCs be useful if it were only available as a feature in Bare Metal? It is technically much easier to do "Windows on Windows" or "Linux on Linux" rather than mix-and-match, because the graphics APIs are not compatible across platforms.

It would be very useful to

It would be very useful to be able to run Beryl/Compiz. IT's not just eye-candy, but actually funtional for use. Most linux users will not run linux without the 3d desktop. I'm not worried about games, but only about the desktop. Have you seen VMGL? http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~andreslc/xen-gl/.
Unfortunately, it's a linux in linux solution only (for now).

Thanks for the pointer.

Thanks for the pointer. I've looked at VMGL before and it may be possible to use that in the Bare Metal version of moka5 Engine. Getting it to work with Windows is a little harder because it requires writing a viewer for Windows. I'll keep you posted and let you know when we make some progress in that area.

Thanks for using moka5 Engine!

Second That Request

Compiz/Beryl significantly improves my work-flow with Linux. While I certainly understand the difficulties with getting 3D acceleration to work in a Linux on Windows environment, that's definitely the pie in the sky that I am looking for.

I have always had to use Windows at work, but prefer Linux... so I'm always looking for a better way to flip between them on one machine. All that being said, I really love the way Moka5 handles the VM's and have been getting a lot of the IT staff where I work to check it out (we're preparing for a VM initiative). Thanks for the good work.

I am in the position where

I am in the position where other people use the computer that i use for Windows games.

My ideal setup would be to use Linux as the guest os and have 3d acceleration for Compiz and Blender etc and the others can keep using windows and games and i can use Linux.

I would really love this feature.
