A Better Way
Is it better to centralize the execution of virtual machines in a datacenter, or distribute it to the endpoint? After considering the inherent limitations of networks and the plummeting cost of desktop hardware, the answer is clear — local execution provides the best user experience at the lowest cost.
MokaFive’s desktop-management software makes it easy to secure and update desktops and laptops across the enterprise. MokaFive enables you to create a virtual desktop that is centrally managed yet distributed for local execution across thousands of devices, Macs, PCs, and bare metal.

Desktop management has traditionally involved the use of a software-distribution agent on each user’s machine. More recently, VDI has offered an alternative that virtualizes the desktop and places it on a server in the datacenter. However, both of these approaches have serious issues. Software distribution frequently fails because of conflicts or agent issues. Server-based VDI provides a poor user experience and requires expensive server infrastructure. We believe that MokaFive is a better way, which combines the best of both worlds. The MokaFive approach is based on the following three capabilities:
Client virtualization
MokaFive uses client virtualization to create your Windows virtual desktop, called a LivePC. LivePCs can run on any user hardware—Mac, PC or bare metal. We incorporate both the virtual machine and a client hypervisor as part of a single solution. By default, MokaFive embeds VMware Player as the client hypervisor, but we've architected it to support nearly any virtualization technology.
Central Management
All LivePCs are centrally controlled from the Management Server. Changes to the golden LivePC image are sent via differentials to each user. Over 70 granular policies allow you to control security and behavior of LivePCs. Lost or stolen devices can be remotely killed.

Layering
LivePCs are automatically split into three layers. This allows you to deploy a single golden image to all users and departments. Users and departments can customize images in the user applications layer, while you maintain the ability to update the base corporate OS and applications layer.

“Expectations of privacy in this context may be higher because a personal device is at issue, and this should be taken into account by companies considering a BYOD strategy and informing their employees of privacy-related issues. If monitoring or an investigation is necessary, organizations should design their efforts in a manner that seeks to minimize the potential exposure of personal and private information.”
