LivePC Engine User Guide - Windows

Backing Up Your Virtual Environment

Backing up your LivePCs

The moka5 LivePC Engine™ can backup your complete virtual environment including your user files every time you connect to your 'main' PC.The LivePC Engine does this seamlessly in the background as you work. A single machine can be the 'home base' for multiple portable devices. You can label each portable device (the default is the device's existing label, like 'John's iPod'), and on restore you can choose which backup to restore from using those labels.

During the LivePC Engine installation process, the installer will ask if you want to backup your virtual environment. If you select 'yes', the backups will be placed on the system disk, in 'Documents and Settings/All Users/ApplicationData/moka5/Engine/backup/devicename' where 'devicename' is the label for the USB device.

Please note that a comprehensive backup will take at least 2 GB of space on your hard drive depending on the size of your image. Should you choose to later disable the backup feature, your image backup will remain unless you choose to delete it.

If you remove an external device before the backup is completed, you will see a message that informs you that 'your virtual environment has not been completely saved'. If you plug your external device back in the back-up will resume at the spot where it left off.

On the main screen interface you will see the status of your backup displayed.

Restoring Your LivePCs™

Should you lose your virtual environment and need to recover your data, you will need to install LivePC Engine on a new device.  When you run the installation program, it will walk you through the steps to recover your environment.

If the host machine has backup images available, the installer asks: 'On install - moka5 LivePC Engine has detected a backup of a virtual environment - would you like to restore this environment?' You will be asked to select from a list of backups if you have backed up multiple devices. Select 'Yes' or 'No'.

If you select 'no', you will be asked: 'Would you like to permanently delete this backup?' Once you press 'OK', your backup image will be deleted. A pop-up window will ask: 'Are you sure you want to permanently delete your LivePC image?' You can select 'Yes' or 'No.'

Setting Backup Options

After installation, you can go modify your backup options. Click on 'Backup Status' on the main screen interface to open the Backup Settings menu.

If you select the 'Go to my backup files' folder, you will be taken to the directory that contains your backup files. You are also given the option to select or deselect the backup option, and you can choose to run the backup process while your computer is idle.
