Connecting to LivePCs using the LivePC Engine with a wired network connection
You can use a wired connection to bring your LivePC Engine™ online. Please note that your network environment must support dhcp clients for a wired connection to work. For example, you can plug your system into a home router or office network for the LivePC Engine to work.
To use the LivePC Engine with a wired network connection, simply follow the following steps:
Click on 'Configure Network' on the lower left side of the LivePC Engine UI. You will see the window below, which indicates that the network is currently not connected.
Plug in the network cable into your network connection, and you will see an animated icon below, which shows that the system is trying to connect to your network.
After a short while, the following icon will appear to indicate that your wired network connection was successful.
Connecting to LivePCs using the LivePC Engine with a wireless network connections
Currently, wireless network connection support by the LivePC Engine is limited. If your computer hardware is running on the Atheros or Centrino chipset, there is a good chance that the LivePC Engine supports it. Computers running on any other chipset, including the popular Broadcom chipset, are currently not yet supported. We are working to expand our hardware coverage. If the LivePC Engine supports your particular computer hardware for wireless network connection, it will also support WEP and WPA encryption through this connection.
To find out whether the LivePC Engine supports wireless networking on your computer and to configure wireless networking, click on 'Configure Network' on the left-hand-side of the LivePC Engine and follow the below instructions. You should only have to go through the network connection set-up once.
To use the LivePC Engine with a wireless network connection, simply follow these steps:
Click on 'Configure Network' on the lower left side of the LivePC Engine. You will see the window below, which indicates that the network is currently not connected.
Left-click on the window and the list of available wireless network is shown. If you do not see a list like the one below, this means your wireless network adapter is currently not supported by the LivePC Engine.
Choose the wireless network you wish to connect to and left-click once on that network connection. The following dialog appears, asking you for the authentication method, authentication password etc.
Fill out the dialog box with the correct information and click on button to connect. You will now see an animated icon like the one below, which shows that the system is trying to connect to your network.
After a short while, the following icon appears to indicate that your wireless network connection was successful.
If you click on the 'Configure Network' window again, you will see that you are connected to the designated wireless network. Please note the black dot to the left of the network name indicates the wireless network to which the LivePC Engine is currently connected.
If your hardware is not supported and you would like to vote for its support , please send detailed information about your machine configuration to [email protected]
Using LivePCs when you aren't connected to a network
To ensure that a LivePC™ will work when you aren't connected to a network, start your LivePC Engine, then select the LivePC by clicking on it in the 'My LivePCs' view. Then click on the 'Configure' command under 'LivePC Tasks' on the left side of the screen.
You can inform the LivePC Engine that you wish to use this LivePC without a network connection by selecting the 'Let me use this LivePC while disconnected' option and clicking 'Back to My LivePCs'. The LivePC Engine will then start downloading the entire LivePC. You can check the status by clicking on the Configure command again. Once the percentage meter has reached 100%, the LivePC is ready to be used without a network connection.
When you mark the 'Let me use this LivePC while disconnected' option, the LivePC Engine will ensure that data for that LivePC is never deleted from the LivePC Engine's local data storage. If you try to set the disconnected option when there is not enough space on the LivePC Engine's disk to store that LivePC, an error message will be displayed. When this happens, you can make room for that LivePC by deselecting the disconnected option on other LivePCs.
If you have subscribed to multiple LivePCs, the LivePC Engine may choose randomly to start the downloading process for any one of them, sometimes regardless of the 'Let me use this LivePC while disconnected' option. If there is a particular LivePC you would like the LivePC Engine to download right away, you can do so by following these steps:
Select the LivePC.
Click on the 'Configure' command under 'LivePC Tasks' on the left side of the screen.
Select the 'Let me use this LivePC while disconnected' option for that LivePC.
Click on the 'GET' button and the LivePC Engine will start downloading this LivePC right away.
