Wired network connection for LivePCs
In most cases your LivePCs will automatically use your your wired DHCP home or office network connection. If the moka5 Engine does not automatically connect you can do the following:
- Click on 'Configure Network' on the left panel of the moka5 Engine under moka5 Engine™ Tasks.
- The following window will open indicating you are not connected to a network:
- Plug (or re-plug) your network cable into your network connection, and you should see
an animated icon while your network connection is established.
- The icon will be replaced by a network status symbol once connected.
Connecting LivePCs with a wireless connection
Currently the moka5 Engine has limited wireless network connection support. Wireless support is chipset dependent:
- Supported: Most computers running on the Atheros or Centrino chipset. WEP and WPA encryption are also supported.
- Currently unsupported: Computers not running on the Atheros or Centrino chipset including the popular Broadcom chipset. We are working to expand our hardware coverage.
To configure wireless networking:
- Click on 'Configure Network' on the left panel of the moka5 Engine under moka5 Engine™ Tasks.
- The following window will open indicating you are not wirelessly connected:
- Left-click on the window and the list of available wireless network will be displayed. If you do not see a list like the one below your wireless network adapter is not currently supported by the moka5 Engine.
- Left-click on the name of the wireless network you wish to join. Supply the authentication method and password for the network you are joining and click on 'Login'.
- An animated icon will appear while connecting to the network.
- The icon will be replaced by a network status symbol once connected.
- To check your connection you can click on 'Configure Network' and then left click in the 'NetworkManager' window. All available networks will be listed. The live connection is marked with a black dot to the left of the name.
NOTE: If your hardware is not supported you can send detailed information about your machine configuration to [email protected] to encourage more rapid development support.
Using LivePCs when not connected to a network
You can use those features of a LivePC that don't require a network connection even when you are not going to be connected to the internet. Normally LivePCs connect to the internet even when you are not using network dependent applications. They connect in order to seamlessly apply updates. Also when disk space is limited a LivePC may not fully reside on your local machine, it may be fetched as needed in the background while you are working with it. When you are not going to be connected to the internet you need to ensure that the full LivePC resides on your local machine.
- In the moka5 Engine select the LivePC by clicking on it in the 'My LivePCs' view (the background color will change to show the selected LivePC).
- Click on the 'Configure' command under 'LivePC Tasks' on the left side of the screen.
- Under 'Local Storage Settings' check the box for 'Let me use this LivePC while disconnected'. In the example below only 74% of the LivePC is locally stored. Click 'Back to My LivePCs'. If necessary the moka5 Engine will start downloading the remainder of the LivePC. You can check the status by clicking on the 'Configure' command again. Once the percentage has reached 100%, the LivePC is ready to be used without a network connection.
- When you mark the 'Let me use this LivePC while disconnected' option, the LivePC Engine will ensure that data for that LivePC is never deleted from the LivePC Engine's local data storage. If you try to set the disconnected option when there is not enough space on the moka5 Engine's disk to store that LivePC, an error message will be displayed. When this happens, you can make room for that LivePC by deselecting the disconnected option on other LivePCs.
Specifying which LivePC to download
If you have subscribed to multiple LivePCs, the moka5 Engine may choose randomly to start the downloading process for any one of them, sometimes regardless of the 'Let me use this LivePC while disconnected' option. To specify which LivePC to download immediately:
- Select the LivePC by clicking on its icon.
- Click on the 'Configure' command under 'LivePC Tasks' on the left side of the screen.
- Select the 'Let me use this LivePC while disconnected' option for that LivePC if necessary.
- Click on the 'Get' button under the advanced options and the moka5 Engine will switch to downloading this LivePC.
