The VMware Auth should not be required (at least from what I recall on VMware Player 1.x). If ping fails to the host, and the LivePC is configured to NAT, it sounds like the VMware NAT services with vmnet8 network driver is not working. During the install of VMware on Vista, I recall a warning during the install (it's a VMware driver). Did you allow this to complete? Since you've been trying out other Virtual Machines, have you tried a Virtual Machine image from VMware to see if the VMware network stack is functioning? If you can, please provide the support files using Ctrl-Shift-F1 after starting the Engine. This may help point out the problem. You can sent it to [email protected] Thanks Kevin

I just installed workstation

I just installed workstation 6, but when I try and start the new VM, I get a message that says the "VMWare Authorization Service is not running". Checking in services .. I see that it is on automatic, but if I try and start it, I get a service-specific error code 60000004. Examining the event log, I see that it fails to create event for listen socket, and then call to listen fails with error 10013.

We've had a report in where the LivePC does not have internet access. The LivePC not accessing the internet should NOT be related to Vista. Please check if you are hitting a DNS resolution issue. DNS not working. Also can you elaborate as to which service failing with Workstation 6? Thanks. Kevin

I don't know if this is also related to Vista, but I downloaded both the DSL livepc, and Fedora 7, and in both I don't have internet access ( I'm on wireless ). In the latter, my cursor now disappears if I click inside the image. I tried virtualbox, and I have internet access with an xp guest. I tried workstation 6 and that won't run at all dying with a service failure.

To add to what John said, I think you're running into the UAC feature that was added to Vista by Microsoft. There's some information about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_as_administrator: A user may have administrative privileges on a machine while a program being run by the user may not, unless the program is approved beforehand or the user explicitly runs a program "as administrator". A program can be "run as administrator" by right-clicking its icon or shortcut, and selecting "Run as administrator" from the pop-up menu, rather than simply double-clicking the icon. You might have seen the apple ad about the downsides of UAC. John talked more about easing the administrator requirements in another forum post.

Hi Graham, You will need to edit the properties of m5engine.exe and change it to "Run as Administrator". In an upcoming version of the LivePC Engine, this restriction will be removed. -John

No luck. It runs after install. Close it down and Vista says I need admin privgs to run it again.

Just got a new laptop with Vista business on it. Moka5 installed okay, and ran it okay. Created a livePC to test it. However, after rebooting, I get a message that I need to be an administrator to run the LivePC engine .. even though I am administrator :( I'm going to reinstall to see if it helps ...
