The "preferences.ini" error you observed will occur if the Engine is used with USB, VMware is left on Host for acceleration followed by a Host installation of the Engine. Please confirm the following: 1. In Add/Remove Programs VMware Playe is listed. 2. On the Host system with a Local installation, check the Registry for the following entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\moka5\LivePC Engine
InstalledVMM = VMware Player USBInstalledVMM = VMware Player USBUninstallVMM = 0 If they exist, rename the registry key to *.old
InstalledVMM.old USBInstalledVMM.old USBUninstallVMM.old Start the Engine from the Local host and try starting a LivePC. Then verify that the USB will also work on the same Host. Kevin Mon, 26 Feb 2007 06:59:31 -0800 local install http://www.moka5.com/node/593#comment-688 It is a local install. The livepcs I created were from a usb drive but when I tried to create a livepc on the local disk, it came up with the same error as explained in the previous messages. After doing a search, I could not find either the moka5log.log nor the usb-control.log. Greg Sat, 10 Feb 2007 11:47:52 -0800 Thanks for getting a http://www.moka5.com/node/593#comment-686 Thanks for getting a snapshot of the message. Several other users have also reported this type of error and it looks like you found the < a href="http://www.moka5.com/node/619"> same workaround but we have not seen this issue in the lab. We'd love to get additional information from you to understand the issue and resolve it once and for all. This looks like a local disk Engine installation. Please confirm. Also did you once have USB on the same host? If you would be kind enough to send us some log, that may tell us what may have gone wrong. Ctrl-Shift-F1 and a zip file will be on your desktop. Send this to [email protected] Collecting installer log: In the event that the installer does not complete, a file will be placed on the users desktop, and is called. moka5log.log, If this occurred after a new desktop installation, then we'll need to hunt for the installer files: %TEMP%\{……}\{…}\moka5log.log %TEMP%\{……}\{…}\usb-control.log You may need to search in %TEMP% to find the moka5log.log and usb-control.log The logs should be in the temp folder. If you click start->run and enter %TEMP%, it should bring you to the temp folder. In the temp folder, look for a folder with {some random characters and numbers} as a name. Go into that folder and look for moka5log.log and usb-control.log. Kevin Fri, 09 Feb 2007 22:08:25 -0800 another problem http://www.moka5.com/node/593#comment-682 I've got the download correct, however when I run the livepc I've download, i get this error: http://web.gregschultz.net:881/moka5error.jpg Any ideas, Greg Fri, 09 Feb 2007 14:30:59 -0800 Greg, Are you still having http://www.moka5.com/node/593#comment-675 Greg, Are you still having this issue with your LivePC? I have not observed any issues with your posting. Here are some items to check since it show "Can't reach server": 1. Check for the LivePC folder in the the following path. For Desktop: %userprofile%\Application Data\moka5\Engine" For USB: moka5\Documents and Settings\moka5User\Application Data\moka5\Engine 2. Go into the name of the LivePC and there should be 3 files and 2 folders. File names: livepvm.xml, properties and ver-5.vml Folder names: activation and original The original should have a the files similar: logoxxx.png, nvram, system.vmdk, vm.vmx The activation folder should empty unless you started the LivePC. If everything looks OK, can you copy that LivePC folder and sent it to [email protected]. I'd like to check the contents to see if anything went astray. 3. Try removing the downloaded LivePC using the User Interface and then try downloading it again. There should be a <livepc name>.lpc on the "My LivePCs" folder or just go the the Library and try downloading it again. Another shortcut to your LivePC is to click on the "Discuss" option. Please let us know if this helps. Kevin Thu, 08 Feb 2007 08:38:43 -0800 can't access server http://www.moka5.com/node/593#comment-671 I've uploaded my livepc and made a livepc garage, but when I download it; it gives me an error "Can't reach server" but I can access it through firefox. Any ideas? Greg http://web.gregschultz.net:881/moka5/CentOS/vm.vmx Wed, 07 Feb 2007 19:05:37 -0800 Hello Greg, Yes, you can http://www.moka5.com/node/593#comment-664 Hello Greg, Yes, you can click on "Package" for that LivePC, upload the packaged files to a web server, then post it as another private LivePC (or as an update to your original LivePC). When you package, you are given the option to only include the differences, which is faster to create and download but relies on the original files still being available, or to include everything, which is larger but self-contained. You can find more information in the documentation. -John Sat, 03 Feb 2007 15:04:10 -0800 update download livepc http://www.moka5.com/node/593 I don't if this has been covered but I wonder if this will work. If I create a private LivePC, I download it, and the LivePC has been edited; is there a way to upload the version I was using so that other computers using this LivePC will see my updates?
