Hi Mark, Glad it worked well for you. I haven't tried the 8GB one myself, but the 2GB version worked quite well. Even though it doesn't have high benchmark scores, it is very fast in real-world performance. Me, I'm waiting for the 64GB flash drives to come down in price... -John

Kingston DataTraveler Secure

Bought a 8GB stick for $219, from newegg. Man this is night and day compared to the Lexar. In casual use, the Kingston seemed as fast as the Patriot Memory Xporter. Just as important, after you login to then encrypted partition, it keeps the same drive letter, and Moka5 treats it as a removable drive. Mark

Kevin, Yeah, that works, after a fashion. My setup: C: Local hard drive F: Lexar Secure II 4 GB USB - Removable in Disk Mgr K: Patriot Xporter 4 GB USB - Removable in Disk Mgr V: Encrypted volume, loaded from F: - Not seen by Disk Mgr I had already installed a LivePC on K: so I copied that one to V:. The LivePC on V: worked OK, but access was very S L O W, especially compared to K: When the LivePC tries to update, again it won't give me V: as a destination choice, just the Desktop, F:, and K: Monica L. from Moka5 told me that she had this working, and that it was pretty fast. I wonder what USB stick she is using? Mark

I've observed other encrypting software (TrueCrypt) that will remount the encrypted volume which prevents the installer from detecting proper drive letter. This may be a workaround (I haven't tried with the Lexar II specifically) but it works with TrueCrypt. Updates to the LivePC Engine is a whole different issue :( 1. If there is enough space on the unencrypted volume, install it there, then copy the content to the encrypted volume. 2. Install with no encryption first. Then copy files to local disk for temporary, encrypt USB volume and transfer files back. I would be interested in what Disk Management reports for the USB when encrypted. 1. Does the USB drive show as "Removable" in Disk Management? 2. How many partitions shows in Disk Management. If you give it a try, please let us know if you were successful or not. Kevin

Moka5 on Encrypted USB volume?

The Lexar Secure II USB stick contains a utility that lets you create an encrypted volume and mount it as a Windows drive. However, I can't figure out how to install Moka5 to this encrypted drive. The installation does not list this as a Removable Drive option, although it does list the unencrypted portion of the Lexar stick. Is it possible to do this? Mark
