ubuntu discards changes?

I went into Add/Remove and added a heap of programs. After I shutdown and restarted, I can't see them anymore on the menu. Is this LivePC not persistent across reboots? That should be stated in the description.

Considering a LivePC author's intention

It would be helpful if the creator of a LivePC said a few words about it's intended use. I think I've noticed a missing SWAP slice on virtual drive hda and the existence of hdb with no slice or mount point defined. I assume from configuration that the creator of the Ubuntu-6.1.0 LivePC does not intend to actively make changes. I guess the intent is to quickly get base release of Ubuntu 6.10 and extend and customize it heavily. I'm assuming this is the intention because he has not separated user data (/home) on to persistent storage. There is nothing wrong with using moka5 in this way, to jumpstart Ubuntu 6.10 exploration. It would be helpful if the author would state his intention and advise the user to activate "Let me make changes to this LivePC", encouraging the user to take ownership. It would be nice for the author of "Fearless Browser" to make an opposite advisory note. The appliance nature of "Fearless Browswer" should be actively maintained (I assume). To get frequent upgrades such as Firefox 2.0, one should not select the "Let me make changes to this LivePC" configuration.

It seems necessary to have vmware-tools installed and running. It's not available in the "add/remove programs" GUI and it is not obvious how to get vmware-tools for linux when VMware player is used.
