What is VMDK" en proprietary format, or something http://www.moka5.com/node/338#comment-337 * not sure why it's been chosen to shoot compatibility in the foot using weird disk format. * The "persisent" option does not work as advertised. * Disks are not shrinkable like VMware disks typically are. My installation swelled to 5 gb and never came back, even though I've reduced its contents to < 600 MB * I am trying to reduce it using SDelete (google it) which typically reduces vm disk size. Obviously, the "shrink" option in vmware tools doesn't work. It probably can't understand what it's looking at. * Even though my VMX opens in VMware workstation, it can't understand or open the disks involved. * I see that Cdisks divide a disk into 2 GB chunks. If it's meant to HELP portability on portable USB drives, it's not helping at all. It's incompatible and doesn't work with any utilities out there for Vmware disks * There are several vm workstation creation tools out there that are free. Let the users use those to create something and point your LivePC engine to it using something simple like an INI file. If you are going to use Vmware format anyway, ensure maximum compatibility. No one would prefer to use the web-based (cryptic and unexplained) creation tool compared to the GUI programs VMware users have made. * Just some thoughts... Let me know what you think! Thx Fri, 03 Nov 2006 10:05:22 -0800 What is CDSK. What is VMDK http://www.moka5.com/node/338 Can someone please explain the difference. When a LivePC is initially made all the disks have to be CDSKS. Later on they change to VMDKs. But these VMDKs are not VMWare compatible (at least, they don't open in the VMWare mounting utility). Why are these VMDKs not compatible? Why can't I open up my LivePC VMX in VMWare workstation? Appreciate answers to any of these questions Thu, 02 Nov 2006 17:51:58 -0800
