Sun, 22 Oct 2006 00:17:50 -0700 Good idea. http://www.moka5.com/node/254#comment-186 Good idea. I'll clean up the nLite script and post it online. We have more ideas for simplifying and automating Windows installs, so keep an eye out on the blog for further developments. -John Wed, 11 Oct 2006 12:40:06 -0700 Souns cool http://www.moka5.com/node/254#comment-173 Already nice to carry along WinXp ona a stick it is even better to be able to shrink it. I've been deleting directories after installation to make WinXP lighter for VMWare. This usually resulted in a limit of 700mb, just over 1 cd, but this is great! Maybe post your nLite script somewere in the forum or on some wiki? Alexander Wed, 11 Oct 2006 01:41:18 -0700 Putting Windows on a diet http://www.moka5.com/node/254 <p>A standard Windows installation can be pretty big - up to a gigabyte or more. About 80% of that is useless junk that you don't need, which just takes up disk space and makes your system run slower. This is especially true when you are building a LivePC - the environment is virtualized so most of the hardware drivers are unnecessary. The question is, how do you strip out the bloat without breaking anything?</p> <p>There are a couple of tools that will help put your Windows on a serious diet. We've used these at moka5 to build some truly tiny Windows LivePCs - just 38MiB for a basic Windows XP Pro installation! You can layer on the software you want and have a lean and mean, yet fully functional, Windows LivePC that you can fit on a small USB stick.</p> Tue, 10 Oct 2006 17:21:59 -0700
