moka5 is a spin off from Stanford University's Computer Science Department focused on desktop virtualization technology.
The moka5 vision is to make using a computer like driving a brand new car everyday- clean, safe, fast and with all the upgrades. Anywhere you want to go, the moka5 LivePC™ will take you there.
Monica Lam and several PhDs founded moka5 out of a passion for applying virtualization to real world PC problems (we call those who share this passion the über virbu). The moka5 team, pretty much all PhDs and senior technology leaders, refers to Monica as CV (Chief Virbu) and CEO.
Starting in 2001, her research group developed a PC system architecture that uses virtualization to improve PC security, simplify system administration and support user mobility. The original research goal was to improve management of computing using the thin-client computing ideas. The research went beyond the thin-client idea and created a 3rd-generation system architecture. This research is now being employed to architect a number of new virtualization based technologies for enterprise, small business and home use. The team at moka5 has created a rich patent portfolio and is in process of productizing.
