moka5 had another great show at the Large Installation System Administration Conference

We had another great show at the Large Installation System Administration (LISA) Conference. Over 70 people attended the Birds of a Feather Session on Tuesday. For the people who missed it, here are the slides that we presented. Next stop: CES.

Vinod Khosla talking to us at moka5

One of the coolest things at moka5 is we get to meet a lot of the high-tech heavyweights and to discuss technologies with them. Today Vinod Khosla, one of our board members, spent 3 hours (!) with our engineer team to discuss all kinds of topics. One of the topics was on how to build a successful product by conducting experiments and iterating them quickly with the customers. Here is an excerpt from the discussion:

We will be at Large Installation System Adminstration Conference (LISA'06) next week

LISA '06 will take place in Washington, D.C., December 3–8, 2006. We will have a Birds-of-a-Feather session at 7:00pm on Tuesday, December 5 and we will be in Booth 109 during the exhibition. Three of our founders will be there, so stop by. Sorry, we are not giving out USB Hamsters this time.

Update: We will have two USB Hamsters to give out at the BOF session. Stop by to win one.

One Laptop per Child

Have you heard about this "One Laptop per Child (OLPC)" project? The goal of this project is to create a very low cost laptop that every child can afford one. Right now they are still developing the hardware but their software is available for preview. We put their software in a LivePC, so now everyone can try it our easily. The user interface they have is pretty cool. Check it now by download the LivePC here. Make sure you have the LivePC Engine installed.

Slides from VMworld 2006

Thanks for all the people who stopped by our booth at VMworld a couple weeks ago. If you have not downloaded and tried our software yet, please do so now. If you want a quick overview on how LivePC and LivePC engine work, here are the slides for a quick overview. Check it out:

Live from VMWorld

We had a great day at VMWorld yesterday. So many people stopped by our booth and they were impressed with our LivePC technologies. Here are some quotes:

  • "This is the best thing I see in this show."
  • "When I signed up for VMWorld, I did not expect to see something this cool."
  • "This is such a great idea, how come I didn't think of it first."
  • "How much is it? When can I buy it? Free?!? No way!!"
  • "Can I buy that USB Hamster?"

If you have not stopped by, please do so. If you have already stopped by, stop by again. We still have a lot of USB Hamster Wheels to give away.

Beta 6 Just In Time for VMWorld

Just in time for VMWorld 2006, we are releasing Beta 6 of the moka5 LivePC Engine (build 1.0.7183).

What's new in Beta 6? It contains over 200 changes and bug fixes, here are the highlights.

  • Big improvement to download performance when buffering.
  • Import system proxy settings from Windows automatically.
  • Support for running on International versions of Windows.
  • Simple LivePC creation dialog.
  • Backup settings for portable device can be modified after install.

USB Flash Drive megareview posted

Here at moka5, we've seen all kinds of USB devices.

What's New with the Fearless Browser

I've been using the Fearless Browser LivePC to keep my private web browsing profile with me at all times. It's been pretty useful for managing my bank accounts online from PCs at work and at my friends apartments. I just leave all my passwords stored in it so that I don't have to go through so much hassle everytime I want to use one of the premium services I subscribe to on the net.

You guys had some great ideas on the forums and I've incorporated them into the newest revision, which you probably already have! :-) The system uses OpenDNS servers which automatically identifies phishing sites that rely on mistyped domain names. And...the beta of Flash 9 is installed so that you can use all the fun interactive sites out there. I love this classic microwave fun and this puzzling oddity, but all the new snazzy stuff should work too!
