3D Gaming demo in LivePC virtual machine
As you all know that we released Virtual Machine 3D Graphics Acceleration for preview a couple months back (see blog posting). We have integrated the 3D Graphics support in our latest LivePC Engine release and the moka5tools. You can now play any games on your Windows XP LivePC.
Here are a couple videos that show the games running inside the LivePC virtual machine:
Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) LivePC is ready for download
We have updated the Ubuntu 7.04 LivePC from beta to the final release. If you have subscribed to that LivePC, you don't need to do anything as it will be updated automatically. If you are new to Ubuntu and you want to try it out, you can stream it from here.
We have also posted a couple videos to show up how Ubuntu works as a LivePC. Check them out.
New Beta Release of the LivePC Engine
We are happy to announce that we have a new beta release of the LivePC Engine, available for download from the website. For those of you who have a previous version of the Engine, it is also available via autoupdate.
This release features several stability improvements, including a revamped USB LivePC Engine, much improved 3D graphics support, and support for gracefully dealing with disk full situations. It also features a revised user interface that should make the Engine easier to use.
Some LivePC Easter Eggs
Software often has hidden features, called "Easter Eggs", that you can find by secret keystrokes or clicks. For Easter this year, I'll show you a few of the Easter Eggs we put in the LivePC Engine.
FPS counter
Double-click the Copyright notice to see a frames-per-second counter for the LivePC Engine. This also works on other windows, like the backup window.
MicroSD Benchmark
I've been poking around with carrying LivePCs on my cellphone now that I got a new Blackjack smartphone. I wanted to get the fastest possible flash card to make sure the performance was ideal. Unfortunately, I discovered that my phone only really supports USB 1.1 data rates when it acts as a mass storage device. Nonetheless, I bought 7 different microSD flash cards from different manufacturers and tested their performance using the ATTO disk benchmark. The peak transfer rate results are in.
Custom made moka5 USB flash drives available (Vista ReadyBoost capable)
We worked directly with a hardware manufacturer and custom made some high performance 1G USB flash memory drives.
Fearless 2.0+
It's that time again... time to make the Fearless Browser more intimidating. I've loaded it up with new goodies for everyone's enjoyment. The fearless Firefox is now version 2.0.0.1, and it has some new plugins. The official release of Adobe Flash Player 9 is included along with the MPlayer plug-in (for web video). MPlayer is also installed so you can save and watch whatever videos you find while cruising the web. Thunderbird is updated to version 1.5.0.9. Last but not least, it should boot faster now that it starts the linux services in parallel.
