MOKA5 DELIVERS WINDOWS AND LINUX VIRTUAL COMPUTERS ON THE GO AND ON THE WEB
moka5™ puts a new twist on the concept of "the network is your computer" by hosting live virtual PCs on the Web
Redwood City, Calif. — November 6, 2006 — moka5™, a desktop virtualization technology company, today announced that it will start pre-registering users for the LivePC hosting service at the VMWorld conference. This allows consumers to keep their live virtual PC on the Web, share it with others and carry a copy of it on a USB fingertip drive or iPod. These PCs are live because you can update all the copies by just updating the master copy on the Web. This easy and holistic approach offers a simple alternative to the complex problem organizations face in managing their members' computers.
Introduced in September 2006, moka5's LivePC Engine lets consumers carry their Windows and Linux virtual PCs on a portable USB storage device. The user simply plugs the device into any Windows XP PC, and his or her virtual PC will come up securely and reliably. The LivePC Engine ensures data security by automatically backing up the data while the USB drive is plugged into the home PC.
"In response to popular demand, moka5 is providing a free LivePC hosting service for a limited time," said Monica Lam, Founder and CEO of moka5. "Our service enables consumers to create and maintain virtual computers on the Web and share it with friends, family, members of an organization, or share with everybody on the Web."
Users have the opportunity to subscribe to one of many community-contributed LivePCs, ranging from games to office suites, in the moka5 LivePC Library. The user will get the latest version of the LivePC every time the machine boots up, eliminating the need for each and every user to maintain their own virtual machine. One example of a LivePC in the library is the "Fearless Browser" which prevents spyware and phishing while allowing users to browse anonymously and communicate securely via email or instant messaging.
To pre-register for the service, consumers can go to www.moka5.com.
